Water Quality/Habitat Protection Committee
Chair: Suzanne McCarthy

This committee gathers data on the condition of waterways and wetlands in our area and on sites that are important to wildlife habitat. It is responsible for reestablishing a volunteer monitoring program, creating a database of monitoring results including sites needing restoration, and generating projects to clean up and restore habitat in our watersheds. The committee also has responsibility for interacting with both large and small groups on projects affecting the area. These would include universities and other agencies (for example, on stormwater management projects), and local groups focused on community or site-specific problems. If you are interested in stream monitoring, surveying vernal pools, wildlife assessment, database development, stream and road cleanups, or wetland and stream remediation, this committee will match your interests.

Land Preservation Committee
Chair: Janet Eisenhauer

The role of this committee is to advance land preservation throughout the region and to work closely with the South Jersey Land Trust to protect land along the stream corridors of Gloucester County and within the watersheds of Raccoon and Oldmans Creeks (for which SJLT has NJ Green Acres-approved funding). Committee goals include identifying educational needs related to land preservation, including farmland preservation. In addition, the committee will work with other organizations to advocate for measures that support the farming industry, preserve upland forest habitat, protect wetland and waterway corridors and promote additional open space protection. If you are interested in organizing programs on these topics, promoting agriculture, supporting Federation and SJLT work with municipalities, or monitoring already preserved lands for which SJLT has management responsibility, then you are interested in this committee.

The committee is also responsible for overseeing activities that focus on educating all ages of the public, such as our in-school programs and community day participations.
